A writer who says that "democracy is empathy" (Oy.) excoriates conservative Mormon writer for his unfriendly rejection of gay marriage and of homosexuality:
"I’m more confounded by the cognitive disconnect between the empathy required to create Ender and the callousness required to insist that you have the right to use violence to tell other people how they should live their lives."What the hell is contemporary liberal democracy, with its metastatic forest of regulations, but the use of violence to tell other people how they should live their lives?
The blindness of these people to their own passion for power and control --simply because it serves their idea of "open-minded" virtue-- continues to astonish me.
