Shallow me

Via the lawless internet, I can watch the new Star Trek prequel movie. But it's a camera version of what's shown on the screen so it has a kind of 1930's look to it. It's exciting, and silly. Some of the barfworthy Star Trek PC moralism remains. The new BBC Sherlock Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch, is the serious bad guy, Khan, who will/did show his Wrath.

The young Captain Kirk is the freakishly handsome Chris Pine, whose bromance with Spock (out gay man Zachary Quinto) continues, the switching of a famous franchise scene between the buddies bringing out a side of the Vulcan we have never seen before. (Vagueness to avoid spoiler.)

PS Although Uhura is now played as a super-efficient fox, she remains a woman. She starts a romance with Spock --the Vulcan-- and then gets mad at him --the Vulcan--for not showing his feelings...

Anonymous said...: C?hris Pine's attractiveness should not be humanly possible. Which means that he was either genetically engineered to be a perfect specimen of male beauty, or he is some sort of supernatural creature. Either way, I wouldn't mind him "boldly going where no man has gone before." ;)

Zachary Quinto isn't bad looking, and he isn't too effeminate, but he gets a black mark in my book because he's dating a Glee alumnus. Who isn't bad looking, but still. I guess love really is blind.

Toward Our Future

What the sons of Europa need is a new religion: one that is as tribal, portable and survivalist as Judaism, as masculine, terrestrial and tough as Islam and as intellectually and aesthetically creative as Christianity...with a dose of the unflinching realism of the ancestral ways of the Greeks and Romans, Germans and Celts and Slavs..And for the larger Indo-European frame, something of the Indian capacity to combine an ultimate and philosophical realization of The One with a robustly mytho-poetic religion on-the-ground. Oh, and some of the psychological acumen of Buddhism.

Liberalism's Basic Flaw

Liberals believe that the chief role of the State is to force everyone to be equal, (ie, take vengeance on the successful). So when they are confronted with any group that they deem less well off than themselves, they are morally disarmed, completely and utterly. Any group that can achieve Victim Status is on their way to power and the (White) liberal's only job is to give them what they want, no matter how much that damages him. And nothing may ever be expected, much less demanded, of them in return. It's a recipe for suicide: no other outcome is possible.
