Some day

"All men are created equal" will seem as antique as The Divine Right of Kings.

HT to a rightwing traditionalist.

To be replaced by... what? Power according to ability? Pack mentality writ large? Exactly what will be the guiding axiom of government after the Declaration of Independence gets scoffed off the stage? I don't know, but it will be interesting.

It is interesting to me think about how the former is basically a vast over-reaction to the latter.

And, having been around for such a shorter time, may pass the swifter.

An interesting question, assuming both ideas are nutz, is which/whether one view is actually less sane. The traditional being "you are solely suited to being a fishmonger, for you issued forth from your fishmonger father's loins," and the modern "everyone is equally suited to be a rocket-brain-surgeon-scientist." The answer is not obvious.

It seems like the happy medium between Divine Right and liberalism is meritocracy, people being given positions based on their ability, not their connections. Failure at a job would not reflect on the worker as long as they were not slacking off, and would reflect a lack of judgment on the part of the person who put them in that position. The idea of some period of military or civil service is also appealing.

Two separate institutions for relationships, one for having kids and exclusively for straight couples, and the other for emotional fulfillment, open to any couple, with the stipulation of no kids; religions would be able to decide who could participate in the relationships.
