During an NPR interview about the Arizona shootings, a new Congressman from Utah, himself a sometime gun carrier, trying to be the caring and utopian therapist-lawmaker figure that we have decided is now de riguer all over the place, says: "What people are struggling with is how to make sure nothing like this happens ever again."
What???????????????????????????????????????????
YOU CANNOT MAKE SURE NOTHING LIKE THIS EVER HAPPENS AGAIN.
WTF!?
The posing unreality of public discourse has long since passed the mark from ridiculous to dangerous. It's not the use of martial metaphor; that is in fact an achievement of humanity: to substitute words for weapons. It is the utterly unhinged and hysterical quality of the speech about the act.
