Stupidity, laziness or contempt?

A historical fantasy flick set in England in 1600 has the hero taking refuge in a...monastery. In England. In 1600.

The last monastery in England was despoiled by the Crown in 1540 and the last abbots who resisted Henry had long since been hung, drawn and quartered for their troubles.

And the hero meets the Puritans who are about to set sail for America. In 1600. Twenty years before they left.

But it's a fantasy flick, you say. True enough. But if you're gonna set it in a very specific place and time and then break the laws of time and space, you should at least account for it in the plot.

Nope, most viewers are stupid and to be honest, most movie makers are even more stupid.
