Money Boo Boo

I was recently notified of a reality show about a Redneck family, called Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. The video link shows Anderson Cooper on Jimmy Kimmel discussing the show and the people.

Two points: if this were a Black family --which could easily match the dysfunctions of the Redneck one...although having a resident father might a stretch-- it would be rank racism.

And when Anderson quotes the family members, he switches to an attempt at matching their accent and syntax. Again, were this a Black family and he did that...rank racism.

You see how the game is played and why Ex Cathedra is, as the gays so, so over it?

PS. I have not seen the show, but judging from the Cooper/Kimmel exchange, a variety of journalist responses to it, and reality shows of other kinds, I suspect that it is one more event which reflects back to Americans that they are people without any dignity at all.

The nihilism that passes for humor is a symptom.

Update. Apparently Honey Boo Boo is so appalling that even South Park made it the centerpiece of their recent show, lamenting how low the bar had fallen. South Park!
