Great pop art

Steve Winwood's 1988 Roll With It. Great music and genius video work. You can feel the heat and the sweat, the rhythm, the sound of the crowd, the smell of the fried food and the liquor. Great stuff. Totally danceable, and with joie de vivre.

And remixed in HD.

Those were my bar and dancing years.

1988. That was a great year. Sonny Bono was elected Mayor of Palm Springs. What a great year.

I love 80s music videos. Back when the form was new, and every video was, in some way, experimental. Of course, like many things, the directors realized what was most popular in music videos (sex) and have overwhelmed videos with it. But while I like the pop culture of the 80s, I don't think I would want to live back then: the specter of the Soviet Union still hanging over people, AIDS mowing people down, the blight of drugs like cocaine and heroin... of course, the present is scarcely better. At least the 80s had a happy ending when the Wall came down.

Just got back from Man of Steel. Not spectacular, but not utter trash, either. Strange that the scenes where Metropolis was being leveled featured abandoned buildings, but people on the streets just standing around. And the idea of a "realistic" Superman sounds a tad oxymoronic to me.

I liked Henry Cavill as Superman. He's an extremely good-looking guy: when at least a little scruffy, his features are refined yet masculine, rugged yet charming. The jaw, the cheekbones, the scruff, the eyes, the hair... And whenever he was in the suit I couldn't help but think, "I bet he smells really good. Like, he must smell like he's wearing really nice cologne or something." So yeah, I guess you could say I'm a little smitten. :)

Chris Pine is still my standard of sheer male attractiveness, but he seems more like a best friend you have a good sexual, but not romantic, connection with. Cavill, on the other hand, struck me as the impeccable and steadfast life-long lover who makes you wonder what you did so right to deserve such good karma. Pine seems more accessible and human, Cavill really did seem divine, someone to worship and adore. Maybe they're two halves of the same whole, in that regard. ...Can I have them both? ;)

A combo of Pine and Cavill? I'm afraid not: Mr B is already taken :)

So the One should be a combination of the two, the friend and the lover? Sounds about right, one without the other didn't sound totally complete. Have no fear, Mr. B is all yours, I'm not that kind of guy. Surely there must be at least one other man in the country who has those traits.
