It's an enormous new 5-star hotel that dominates the skyline and dwarfs the mosque that contains the Kaaba. Pics of it evoke Big Ben-Bellagio-Stalinism.
One culturally insensitive lout suggested Sauron's Tower in Mordor, from Lord of the Rings.
Truly bizarre.
What a similar arrangement might look like in Rome, with the Westin Times Square Hotel looming over St Peter's tomb...

This mega-hotel is still very much in the planning stages, and may ultimately be like Frank Lloyd Wright's "mile-high" building. I understand, that if everything goes right, California's high speed rail line will have a station at the hotel.

I hope to see Mr. exCathedra in the bar car.
I know I'm going to out myself as a geek, but that's Saruman's tower, not Sauron's.
Geeks are always welcome at Ex Cathedra, who has himself been occasionally accused of being a pointy-headed intellectual.
