A beautiful evening on this side of the country, but marred for me. My uncle's cancer has returned, yet again. The outlook is uncertain. He has experienced three or four bouts already, all in the course of at most ten years. A priest, too. My own crosses seem insignificant compared to that. A good man, dedicated to the many parishes he has served as pastor. Continuing to celebrate Mass even during his chemo treatments. He taught me strength of will, of the natural impulse of life to endure. I wish I could be as strong as him. I would happily spend a century in Purgatory if he was never afflicted with it again.
