Machiavelli vs Sweet Reason

In response to my (too rational) surprise about the EU wanting to enclose unhappy Serbs within the new state of Kosovo, this:

A machiavellian perspective could be that the Prince wants the Hatfields and McCoys focusing their energies against each other rather than against the Prince.

Hmm. Good point.

Given Europe's 20th century experience with wars, could it be that, consciously or unconsciously, they much prefer states who are too pre-occupied with internal strife to gather up the common energy to attack another state?

Does this somewhat explain the European mania for importing problematic Third Worlders into their formerly White and bellicose corner of the world?

Reminds me of Reb Rahm's touting of "Chicago Values" to keep Chick Fil A out of his town.
