Although he was clearly born in Poland, not Hawaii or Kenya, these images raise some doubts about John Paul II, the dramatic head of the Catholic Church for a good quarter century. Was he secretly a Muslim?
The first pic shows him kissing the Quran, presented to him by an interfaith Iraqi delegation. The second one shows him praying in a mosque...
Nah. It's a strange image, but that's not it.
The first one is as described. With his unfortunate flair for the cheaply dramatic, he did in fact bow to and kiss Mohammad's book. Overdone expression of respect for his visitors. Head-shakingly stupid, actually. The Pope of Rome kissing a book which clearly and distinctly and repetitively denies the Trinity and the divinity of Christ...to say nothing of eradicating Christianity by any means it can.
But the second one is from his ordination as a bishop. In Communist Poland in 1958. The rite at the time included this elaborate linen cloth designed to protect any of the holy oils of anointing from being dropped.
