Whites were pretty stable, a plurality but a minority, and Asians grew by 12%, along with the (surprisingly) fewer in number Latinos --whom I suspect were undercounted since so many are illegal aliens. It's well-known that many US cities have had "white flight" for some time, but why does a city have "black flight"? And do any other cities have this?

In SF, it seems to have been mostly a matter of rising cost of living, plus urban renewal of the projects, and I guess most of the low pay jobs now belong to Latinos and Asians; a lot of Blacks would refuse to do menial things. Slavery and all that. The very large black slice of Oakland is right across the Bay and an easy place to flee to.
But it is ironic that the superliberal People's Republic of SF couldn't keep "its" blacks.
In discussing this with a white friend of mine who is usually super sensitive about racism, I was surprised to hear him clearly (but sotto voce) prefer that if any other group was going to run the city, he'd rather have the Asians do it than the other two groups. "They're smart, hardworking, family oriented and don't go around with a sense of entitlement."
