Il Papa and the Pampas

Argentina is something of a mystery. Apparently it has one of the most studied economies in the world. And there seems to be nothing like a consensus about why it went from being the 10th richest country on earth to the kind of roller coaster economy it has had for so long. Given its hugely European population --more White than America--, it can't be blamed on the usual suspect of racism. So what is it?

The Pope is always talking about "the poor." The Liberal assumption is that people are poor because other people are doing something bad. Catholic "social justice" blather seems to make the same assumption.

But economics seems to be partly science and largely art or prejudice or guess. Look at our own battles over our current financial mess. Who knows?
