Manning up

I don't feel like too much of a man lately. All this emotion. And talking about it, letting it show. But then I remember the men of country music. Half of what they sing about is what I am going through, except in my case it's over another man. So I am not so alone among men.

Some men think it's manly to hide feeling or foster inarticulateness, or worse, about emotion. Well, if feeling is part of the truth, then deal with it, don't hide or run from it. That's what I tell the men in my practice. "Be a man, tell him the truth and stop being a coward about it."  Isn't straightforwardness and honesty a manly virtue? Dealing with reality?
