Amurrica

I spent a couple of days with my friend Bill down at his place near Modesto, three hours south of SF in the rural San Joaquin Valley. On Sunday aft we went over to his uncle's place for cake; and ice cream and coffee with the family: aunt and uncle, cousins and niece, etc. They have been getting together like this every Sunday afternoon since his grandparents' time. Ordinary people, farmers, maintenance men, insurance salespeople, etc. As American as you can be. Nice people. To them, Bill is "Billy". And this family tradition has been going on for generations. Sometimes they only have three or four, sometimes twenty. Every week. I am moved, and impressed.
