The Perfect Man

Found an image on a T-shirt in a local gay tchotchky establishment --a comic book store, actually...which you can also think of as a popular repository of archetypal image and narrative...ahem...and it pretty well encapsulates my idea of the perfect...man. ;-)

Might show up in the MaleSoul series...

And of course he turns out to be a dog!

As we say in Gay, "Woof!"

Addendum:

A fella with a profile. A Texan in his 50's, 6ft, 200lbs, 32 waist, 18 arms, happily partnered up, handsome and hung. With one exception, I am not extremely phallo-focussed, but this guy...well, the whole gestalt is...well, I wouldn't mind knowing (or being) his identical twin brother!

For those so inclined, his profile is http://www.bigmuscleleather.com/~hercules

Interesting topic here, though now I'm hoping you're not a closet Furry. :)

As per the discussions on the FOA, I find it interesting that what you take from that picture as being signifiers of Masculinity, I actually read as Gay Fetishism, and therefore they hold no erotic power for me whatsoever.

The jock, the chaps, the nipple ring, the leather vest and cap - they're all sexual signifiers that anyone can adopt, without it being a true indication of who they are.

Basically, i feel Gays resort to this kind of exaggerated artifice since they know that amping it up to cartoon extremes is the only way they can make other men recognise masculinity in them.

For me, masculinity is conveyed in an image like this one.

Sure, you could focus on the abs, but ignore the body - it's about intent. Strength, bearing, discipline, honour, nobility, courage. They're much harder to undeservingly adopt as a 'pose'. That's what puts the lead into my pencil.

You can see why i find pornography so disappointing.

Ah, Mr. K. Welcome to my Palace of Rants.

Don't know what a "closet furry is". I may need a Yank-Oz glossary before long!

Well, you know, it IS a cartoon.

I was talking with a friend this evening and wondering why I found the picture so appealing. He laughed and said it was obvious to him, that it reminded me of a man we both know, someone of whom I am enormously fond and for whom I have great respect and affection, along with a lot of eros.

He's not cartoon-sized, but he does work hard to take care of himself after major heart and gut surgery, has lot of grey fur and carries himself with the democratic self-confidence, sexual comfort, friendliness and roughish playfulness that I see in that little icon. The actual human is loyal, ethical, hard-working, responsible and has a lot of grit and backbone behind a low-key gentlemanly style. And sometimes he does dress like that picture, though I think of him more as a wolf than a dog.

Sure, guys dress sometimes to appear to be what they aren't. They are legion and they are embarassing. But the cartoon, to my eyes, captures a kind of star in the constellation of masculinity that some men, like my above-mentioned friend, can pull off. And I like it, and him, a lot.
