Why an extraordinary woman like Kim Novak would fall for a pencil-necked cave-chested funny-talking Jimmy Stewart in Bell Book and Candle and Vertigo. Beyond me. The man has as much sex appeal as Edward Everett Horton.

hey! I just bought that DVD a month ago. Did you notice all the men were even less mascualine so that Stewart really is the alpha male? Maybe they were all Portland natives.
The truth here is "beyond" you because you're only an androphile, not a womangirl. I don't understand womengirls' eros from within either, but I see what I see. Lots of womengirls are drawn erotically to intelligence in men and to "sense of humour" (he says things that make her laugh and feel life is fun and that she is fun and not boring). Oh, yes, and musical virtuosity. Also "good clothes." Go figure. Jimmy Stewart wears good clothes. ...
As re money, most womengirls consider'd closely are not 'gold-diggers': their real experience of a guy changes when she learns that he is rich (or a famous author, or that he is a duke and his wife will be duchess and their children nobility). And so on. For this reason we all accept that a guy who is rich will be found attractive by many womengirls. In contrast, a guy who marries an heiress will be suspect for his entire life. A guy would not find a womangirl at a party attractive only upon learning that she is a famous author, or decide that a womangirl he formerly had dismiss'd is actually "cute" whe he experiences her as piano virtuosa. A guy may admire a womangirl's intelligence or talentedness as a painter -- but he isn't turn'd on by these qualities. ... Think again, Mr Androphile.
Probably also many womengirls would find Jimmy Stewart handsome [unlike EEH], and his not having a gut would be a plus. And his polite manner would please too, especially in contrast with the swaggering persona of the "player" promoted for guys today.
