It is one of the irksome verbal habits of our age that certain un-sayable words get said in the above euphemistic form. Instead of nigger we have The N Word, instead of fuck, the F word. Am I the only one for whom this sounds infantile, the kind of speech we hear from little kids about their body parts or their eliminatory functions? We laugh at the silly euphemisms of earlier times while we manufacture our own with equal fervor and self-righteousness.

Speaking of the D-word deportation: One of the constitutional structures of my Alternate Republic is a clear distinction between the rights of citizens and the rights of non-citizens. People we used to call foreigners. (How uncouth and dichotomous. After all, aren't we all, in some sense, foreigners?)

"Due process" for a foreigner in regard to legal residency status would be as simple as due process for a driver in regard to legal licensure. You have 48 hours to show it or you get your ass booted out. Very simple.

I lived in foreign countries for 18 years, two of 'em. In both cases, it was perfectly obvious to me that it was my responsibility to make sure I was compliant with their rules on foreigners. I guess that's part of why it galls me --enrages me, actually-- to see foreigners invade my homeland and then demand, well, demand anything. And to see the "native population" cave so massively and shamefully.

As I've said, if you can't control your borders --or more to the point, won't-- then what the F-word is the point of having a country at all?

Parmenidian doxa

Niall Ferguson, the Harvard history prof whose piece on 20th century wars I watched, is in the news again. Last time I recall was when he left his wife and children to marry Ayan Hirsi Ali. This time he's issued an abject apology for suggesting in a lecture that Keynes' economics lacks a future perspective because he was childless and gay.

It truly is astonishing to me to remember life before Stonewall, and I do, where homosexuality was so shameful as to be pretty literally unspeakable except as a slur, to now, where opinions that are less than adulatory are treated as thought crimes. I think one is as insane as the other.

One virtue of Ferguson's DVD was the time he spent on Stalin and his horrors. For our age, Hitler's evil is as self-evident as the Devil's was in the Middle Ages. The fundamental reason, I suspect, is not World War II but the Holocaust. That has become the sacred and unquestionable underpinning of the narrative. Wrong opinions about it get you jailed in Europe. Hitler's crime was not war, but something far worse: racism, the deepest obsession of the post-War West. This leaves Stalin's oceans of blood and death off to the side. People get far more exercised about Joe McCarthy than Uncle Joe. It allows fellow Marxists like Che to be on the T-shirts of Episcopalian pastors[1] and Marx's name to escape the complete opprobrium which follows anything remotely fascist. Despite the craven excuses of fellow travellers, Stalin is the natural result of Marxism, not an aberration. So were Mao and Pol Pot and Ceaucescu, etc. But while we have Inglourious Basterds, no such Hollywood film about scalping Communists exists. The Gulag, if spoken about at all anymore, is regrettable; the Holocaust is absolutely sacrosanct.

Regime of lies, continued

Gun deaths shaped by race in America:

The website that described the poll about armed revolution led me to a few other stories about guns. In these days when the Democrats are trying to physically disarm the nation --part of their long march disarming us psychologically and spiritually--, such stories are numerous.

The Washington Post, mouthpiece of the Liberal regime, has a piece on gun deaths in America and race. The whole piece is based on comparing White suicide rates by gun with Black homicide rates by gun. As if they were comparable issues.

Even though more Whites commit suicide than Blacks died by homicide, suicide is not the issue. The country is still, after all, two-thirds White and only thirteen percent Black. What is interesting, and totally avoided, is the proportion of gun deaths in the nationwide total provided by this smaller population. And indeed, by a minority within that population.

Part of what shows how the American MSM perform the Pravda-like functions of lying for the regime is, of course, what they don't say. We hear about city vs country, states with high gun ownership vs those with low, etc. We hear about the NRA. Blah, blah.

But who's doing all the killings? Who are the people who need to have their gun use controlled by law? All the events cited by gun control crusaders are murders, usually the spectacular group shootings favored by Whites (and Asians), but whose numbers pale (sic) in comparison to those of Black deaths. Are we supposed to believe that this Democrat moral panic about gun control is really about protecting rural Whites in the western states from killing themselves?

Whites who kill themselves are obviously killed by Whites. But the description of all the Black gun deaths studiously avoids any mention at all of who is doing the killing, who is pulling the triggers. In the one case study designed to illustrate the family pain, etc. we are told that "someone" in a car drove by and killed the boy.

If this 13% minority produces 50% of all the murder deaths in the country and 93% of those deaths were at the hands of other Blacks, what's your guess about who's pulling the triggers?

But the Washington Post lies by omission because it doesn't want us to know that a Sacred Protected Victim Group is the source not only of its own griefs but a hugely disproportionate source of the country's.

And the government pays people to troll ads for diversity compliance.

These people will never stop --it's their religion--and it will only get worse.

No wonder a poll suggests that 30% of the population favor armed revolution. And another 20% won't rule it out completely.

The magazine, now, like many, mostly online, invited him back for a two-decades-later shoot. The man in the second shot is 50.

Even with earning his living as an LA fitness instructor, or adding in some work from the doctor, or the illusions of the camera, some kind of deal in which souls were exchanged has to be involved here.

In a remark about ordaining women as Catholic deacons, one wag wrote that it would only be a first step because those in favor of it would never be satisfied "until a female Pope married her lesbian partner." Good, but not far enough.

The Popess would have to be Of Color, and preferably divorced from her first partner, a male, and maybe also be an abortion survivor and have some kind of disability. The partner should be a mixed Jewish-Palestinian atheist.

Kids? Let's let Angelina Jolie handle that.

SF oddity

Sounds like a tautology, but...

It's another beautifully clear sunny day, yet the fog horns have been blowing all morning. In microclimate San Francisco, it's quite possible for the bridge to be fogged in while the rest of the town is not.

Always astonishes me how the sound travels overland. I'm about 4 miles inland from the Golden Gate and 3 from the Bay Bridge, but the horns are always audible.

Other lives

Someone asked me a few years ago what three changes in myself I would ask for if I had my life to live over again.

Now I am not one of those blessed folks who Have No Regrets. So I gave it some serious thought. And I came up with three things: I would be more extraverted and much more drawn to action and accomplishment, I would be a natural athlete, and I would fairly early find a single life-long work and career that both gave me satisfaction and provided me with financial security.

Not very spiritual. And all designed to counter-balance my actual self to make me much more at home in the world than I have been.
