U-topia

Talking with my Enneagram 1 friend Bill, I notice how his first instinct is always to assume how things ought to be and then to deal with how they are. He is, of course, universally disappointed.

His first principle is wrong. The moralistic fallacy.

Any kind of morality that is worth ten cents needs to start from how things are and only then talk about how things out to be.

Bill is especially self-defeating when it comes to human nature. Because he cannot accept it as it is, or even resign himself to it, he moves from disappointed ideal to global death wish in a nano second.

By doing it Bill's way --and this is the Liberal part of him-- you always mandate the impossible.

Utopia, remember, means No-Place. You can't get there from here.
