The good Sisters

Not your mother's nuns.

My favorite line: "You're just another white man not aware of your privilege," she told me, finger pressed to my chest.
I'da loved to have been there...Unaware of my privilege? Lady, you are so wrong. Lemme splain somethin' to ya. :)

(I have met these women, btw, in my former life.)

My favourite line is "The Vatican has become a patriarchal institution in need of serious change."

When was the Vatican _not_ a patriarchal institution?

Similar: when liberals imply that the military-industrial complex became a military-industrial complex under GWB.

"Serious change" is also quite good. Maybe Marx's final thesis on Feuerbach should have been "The philosophers have only _interpreted_ the world, in various ways; the point, however, is to seriously change it."

P.S. Mostly that thesis is as if read to mean that we obey Marx by idealistic activism before the media, organizational work for the party in neighbourhoods, etc. But he is addressing philosophers. Probably even academic lecturing activism doesn't count.

Marx says "verändern" not "verklären" (Luther at Matthew 17:2; Mark 9:2; 2Cor 3:18) but maybe he means philosophers shouldn't interpret but (religiously) transfigure or transform (metamorphosis) the world for understanders. Luther translates metamorpheô (nt3339) as verändern at Rom 12:2. The KJV puts "change" for nt3339 at 2Cor 3:18.

Kafka metamorphosed the white brother: cf "chump change" sc the procedure of chump change, changeing the chump?

Transfiguration you can believe in? ... "Yes Weaken/Weekend"?

96% of these nuns are White and the children of middle class families. The number of poor non-White nuns in the US is tiny.
The Irish of 60 years ago may have thought this was a great choice; the Hispanics of today clearly don't.
These ladies are the Protestant Mainline with rosaries and pant suits.

There's really an ecumenical FAIL when RCs deem "Protestant" Catholics whom they detest or despise.

The social justice Western anonymous-wards Christianity served by these nuns manifested within educated-class white RC and Prot institutions at the same time. I've met RCs (both conservatives and liberals) astonish'd to learn that Sojourners magazine was founded by evangelicals; that is, they hadn't noticed any particular lack of RC distinctives -- e.g. rosaries and Marian devotion. It's all the same social-justice "activism" that has zilch to show in the world for its efforts lo these many years.

Perhaps the great numbers of educated-class Prots who have converted to Catholicism for intellectual jihad vs liberalish social-justice Christianity has some significance and importance as traditionalist protestantism: a kind of slave revolt in valuation vs the social-justice attitudes (soft on Marxism, even on North Korea, at one time as I recall; plus lack of concern for obedience).

Not that these traditionalist Protestants with rosaries are sticklers for sacred doctrine exactly. But in that they are at one with traditionalist cradle RCs.

Well, it's Friday in Wheaton, and that means tomorrow I'll be at the Saturday Night Fever Disco doing my patented post-colonial dance moves with the other yougnsters.
