I would break...I don't think you go far enough. I would break up the whole continent into seperate countries, based on Joel Garreau's 1981 book on the subject. Basically, states and provinces divided by political and cultural unities, but the match ups may be different, given political and cultural changes.

I suggest you read the rest of this when you get a lot of free time.

1. The People's Republic of New England: Maine, NH, Vermont, RI, Mass., Conn., with New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, and Newfoundland and Labrador thrown in. A moralizing surveillance state that would put the Puritans to shame, where you can't sneeze without bureaucratic approval. 3/10

2. Anthracitia: NY, NJ, PA, MD, DE, parts of WV and VA, and the Great Lakes region around Milwaukee, Chicago, Cleveland, and Toledo, with Southern Ontario centered on Toronto. Conservative rural areas, moderate suburbia, and stark raving liberal urbania, with the stage set for cons and mods to wrest control and become a fossil fuel producing powerhouse, provided they get power. Fairly tolerant of homosexuality. 6/10

3. Dixie: The Southeast, with KY, east TX and OK, southern MO, IL, and IN, with Florida as south as Fort Myers. Religiously fervent, combining British-style and religious conservatism to potentially create a xenophobic and technophobic country, but extolls self-reliance, with little government welfare. Public condemnation but private bare tolerance of homosexuality, provided it stays out of sight. 5/10

4. Jesusland: IA, KS, MN, NE, the Dakotas, OK, northern MO, western WI, east CO, east NM, central IL, part of IN, north TX, parts of north Ontario, south Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Also very religious, conservative/republican with emphasis on personal responsibility and privacy of affairs, neutral-to-negative view of homosexuality. 7/10

5. New Cuba-Puerto Rico: South FL metro area, the Everglades, and the Keys. Tourism focused with massive Hispanic influence, eventually spirals into drug violence and cartels rule the roost. 2/10

6. The Border: South and Central Valley CA, south AZ, TX along Rio Grande, most of NM, northern Mexico, Baja. Essentially cordoned off from the neighboring states, whites and U.S. latinos struggle against mass migrations, cartel influence, and latino-on-white violence. Not a happy country. 1/10

7. Pacific Republic: Pacific coast from Alaska down to Santa Barbara. Quite liberal, divided between north and south, stage is set for north-south split, with power shifting north as the south decays, potentially becoming white nationalist-controlled, as per the Northwest Republic idea. Homosexuality is practically a religion, but not any form you or I would want to associate with. 5/10

8. The Free States: Everywhere else, power is concentrated at the state or even the local levels due to the vastness of the territory and the remoteness of the cities. Areligious, Lutheran, Methodist, Moromn. A strong "keep to yourself" attitude, good chance of keeping the ideas of the Founders alive. 8/10

9. Quebec: Maybe if we give them their own country, we can forget about them. Quickly loses ethnic identity. 3/10

Thoughts and comments?

-SeanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
