Wise Blood

Funny lines from Flannery O'Connor's novel.

Haze Motes goes to rent a room.
Landlady asks him, "What you do for a livin'?"
"I'm a preacher," he says.
She inquires, "What church?"
Motes answers, "The Church of Truth Without Christ."
"Protestant?", she says.

LOL.

His later description: "In my church, the blind don't see, the lame don't walk and the dead stay that way."

Via Chateau Heartiste, a quote from an unknown tweeter:

The tolerance that liberals and libertarians demand is really a form of anesthesia--dulling the social nerves to threats.

You are supposed to make believe that you are not under attack, precisely when you are.

Fargo Farrago

Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton are the leads in a quirky, dark and grimly funny new FX series, Fargo. Mr. Rogers meets Psychopaths R Us. Talk about persona and shadow! Although it references the movie, the story takes place in 2006 in Bemidji, Minnesota.

I was curious about this place. I only discovered its existence by accident, at a midwest airport layover years ago, when a bunch of college kids were heading back to school there. Strange name.

According to the look of the series, Bemidji is a very Caucasian Midwest little town in the midst of the Northern lakes and plains and woods, bordering extreme SW Ontario, next door to North Dakota, and a bit west of Lake Superior.

The data on Bemidji --an Ojibway Indian name-- is odd, however. It is 85% White, with a population of only 13,000 but with a crime index highest in its state and higher than a lot of the USA. Mostly theft and burglary. Hardly any Blacks or Latinos in town.

Wassup wit dat?

Here's the geo and demographic details:
In 2010 the city was 81.3% White, 1.2% African American, 11.3% Native American, 1.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.3% from other races, and 4.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.9% of the population.
Bemidji houses many Native American services, including the Indian Health Service. The city is the central hub of the Red Lake Indian Reservation, White Earth Indian Reservation and the Leech Lake Indian Reservation.

When I found this 2004 article about the ACLU, it became clear what the story is. Indians.

Crime statistics in northern Minnesota are alarming. In Cass County, for example, American Indians make up only about 11 percent of the population, yet in 1999, they accounted for more than half the arrests.
If you break it down by specific crimes, the disparities are even more apparent. About 70 percent of people arrested for assault and larceny in Cass County were Indian. Indians accounted for nearly 80 percent of those arrested for vehicle theft and vandalism.

Of course, the notion that Indians get arrested more because they break the law more...well, dass juss be raciss.

GayPatriot » The Curious History of Climate Change “Tipping Points”:

More transnational nationalism, sorta

Boston Marathon:

The first "American" man to win the Boston Marathon in a display of "humankind" at its best.

We avoid praising Americans for bouncing back, --that would be narrow chauvinist jingoism--so we broaden it to the transnational and post-sexist "humankind" and then make believe that one "Meb Keflezighi" is an American.

But if the president of America's (most recent) name is Barack Hussein Obama, then what the hell, no? Why not?

Nancy Pelosi, if you recall, that fine flower of American wymynhood, reminded us that the more foreign immigrants we have in America, including all the illegal invaders, the more American we are. Someday when all the actual Americans are gone, that Race Which Must Not Be Named, America will finally be itself.

Thus the logic of Liberalism.

Captain Phillips

Very good movie about a very bizarre situation: the re-appearance of piracy and the strangely restrained response of modern Western powers to its incursions.

I was amazed at the quite accurate description of how self-limitingly suicidal is the policy of requiring merchant ships to travel unarmed in east African waters. Massive vessels worth many millions are captured by small groups of Somali men armed only with rifles, on pathetically small boats.

Bruce Charlton includes this phenomenon in his reflections on the decline of the West.

The piracy test for moral inversion
A few quick questions on attitudes to modern piracy and what should be done about it can be used to detect moral inversion (moral inversion being the endemic disease of modern elite ideology which reverses traditional evaluations).
The facts are that:
1. Piracy is a 'natural' state of affairs, which will recur unless suppressed - because gangs of reckless and aggressive young men will be able to prey upon the productive population
The reason why so many old Mediterranean towns are built on hills away from the coast is not for convenience or fine views, but because coastal and non-fortified towns would regularly be attacked by pirates, and their population robbed, killed, raped and enslaved (on galleys where they would be worked to death, or marched across the Sahara desert where the survivors would be worked to death).
2. Piracy is a very great evil - gangs of aggressive young men will do utterly appalling things, and will enjoy doing them; and if unchecked pirates will act as parasites on decent and productive society, until decent and productive society is destroyed utterly, when they will move on to their next victims. In other words, piracy is not necessarily self-limiting or self-correcting: it could be fatal, like cancer.
3. It is relatively recently that piracy worldwide was suppressed - just the past couple of hundred years. The main agents were the British Navy and also the navies of the other great European powers. However, piracy was long enough in the past for wishful-thinking pacifists to imagine (like Shire hobbits) that peace and plenty are the natural state of affairs, and need not be defended, need not be fought-for.
***
Therefore, the fact that piracy has been allowed to re-emerge over recent years as a highly profitable business - unchecked and essentially unpunished and despite technical developments which make the suppression of piracy easier than ever in the past - is the most conclusive evidence that could be imagined to demonstrate Western decadence: the reckless, complacent, futile, hand-wringing, self-absorbed, morally-paralyzed blindness of Western political leaders and their ruling elites.

Julius Caesar would be stunned.

Article V Fun

I would love to be rich enough to fund this political passtime: to fund two separate Constitutional Convention think-tanks, one for the Right and one for Left, in order for each of them to come up with a sufficiently amended or even new Constitution for the country they want to have.

The Lefty one would morph the country into a racialized version of the EU. It would be fun to watch all the White Liberals being faced with just how ravenous their beloved Persons of Color would be.

1st Constitutional Convention session

And signing.
A shamefully undiverse lot of Straight White Christian Males.

My guess is that the Righty version would be a very hard-fought compromise between the Christians and the Libertarians. Would the Mighty Whities even get in the door?

And then people would have to vote for which constitution they'd want to live under. You'd see two nations in front of your eyes, more different from each other than the Union and the Confederacy.

Since I have come to feel and think of America as Yugoslavia, the internal fights seem to me to have the tenor of a married couple who have come to hate each other and for whom divorce is the unhappy but only solution.

So much waste.

Off Fence

I get offended a lot. Not by people I know. Mostly by media.

The endless propaganda.

Right now I am trying to watch a mystery series but I can't get myself not to notice the feminist and multiculty propaganda built into it. And into almost everything else produced for our viewing pleasure. Teaching us how the world both is and ought to be and how we should think and feel about it.

Phallic Phemales and Numinous Negroes requisite and abounding. It's especially cool if they're In Charge. And there's The Sacrosanct Interracial Couple/Family. (In this particular one, we have a bi-racial lesbian couple with their Blond daughter...A home run.)

A Potemkin village of race and gender ideology. Lies presented as unquestioned reality.

Hardly any White male, especially if he is a lead and not evil, can be allowed to be by himself without minders of color and vagina. Not even Raylan Givens, who's now got a Black girl boss.

Most men, especially White, are presented as venal, stupid or cowardly. Women, the more of color the better, are smart and responsible. Stronger and better than the men.

It offends the hell out of me.

It was long conventional status-wisdom to sagely poo-poo the dramas and comedies of the 50s for their "unreal" depictions of pleasantly monochrome worlds of picket-fenced intact White families with working fathers and housewife mothers and non-pathological children, etc. It was hell, apparently.

Everything now is "open-minded" and "realistic"...and just as much propaganda as the Soviet posters in Jay Carney's kitchen

PS The film is Under The Dome. Episode 1 was so offensive that I skipped to Episode 13. It added stupid to offensive. Stephen King is a hugely, vastly, galactically, ineffably over-rated writer. The Langoliers. The Stand. OMG.

The Titanic States of BalkanAmerica

IMHO, all efforts to get the new separate and hostile nations aborning inside the boundaries of the USA to cooperate are as useful as it was trying to get the Croatians, Serbs and Bosnians in the 1990's to continue to make believe that they were "Yugoslavs." Or to imagine that the Confederate states really wanted to be part of the Union anymore (which is why they had to be bludgeoned into it.)
The conventional date for the fall of the Western Roman Empire is 476, but in fact it had effectively ceased to exist for 100 years prior, Roman in name but mostly barbarian in fact. They just kept making believe. The Eastern Roman Empire continued on for almost another 1000 years til the soldiers of The Religion of Peace finally wiped it out in 1453.
Do really believe that AG Eric Holder and Sheriff Joe Arpaio are both "Americans"? Do Mayor Bill deBlasio and Sarah Palin belong in the same country?

Aw, c'mon.

Dr Dalrymple Opines on Modern Morality

He doesn't care about Gaia either.

Some Questions - Taki's Magazine:
"The most virtuous person is he who expresses the most all-encompassing benevolence at the highest level of abstraction."
And the greater the distance between the virtuous person and the object of his/her* ethical concern, the more virtuous doth the virtuous person become (at least in his/her own eyes and in the liberal moral paradigm.)

As for their discourse:
It must be a terrible thing to have such boring thoughts, not occasionally but repeatedly, if not constantly, and feel obliged to express them.
Amen, bro. Amen.

*I apologize for my use of the oppressive and essentialist gender binary. And for Dr Dalrymple's sexist use of "he" as a universal.

What was forbidden becomes obligatory

Inter-racial marriage and gay marriage are now societal sacraments. Anything less than enthusiasm for them is blasphemy and sacrilege. To question them, much less critique them, is a crime.

These are the sacred rites and symbols of the New Religion. The triumphs of multiculturalism and feminism.

New Religions can be imposed quickly if they have the right power base. England is Protestant ...well, now, it's post-Christian...because the King imposed that New Faith. Many barbarian tribes became Christian overnight, when their king converted. When Constantine became Christian and gave the Church toleration in 313 AD, only about 10% of the empire was Christian. Yet by 390, with Emperor Theodosius, one long lifetime, Catholicism was the official state religion and all practice of the Old Faith of pagan Rome was illegal. So it doesn't take that long.
And anyone who does not see that Liberalism is a religion is, as the lesbian bumper stickers say, "not paying attention."

Oh, and inter-racial adoption by Whites is up there, at least among liberal Whites. NonWhites hate it, of course. I'm sure they scare their kids into obedience by telling them that if they're not good, Angelina Jolie will swoop down and adopt them.

Ask yourself how creepy it would feel to see, say, Denzel Washington and his wife raising a blonde boy...

Not to put too fine a point

The End Game Of Feminism:

The end game of feminism is to make it impossible for a female to do any wrong, absolving her from all responsibility for her actions, no matter how reprehensible. The fact that a human being has a vagina will soon mean that she can not make a bad decision about anything. Punishing or criticizing a woman for her life choices will be abolished*.
Same end game with multiculturalism.

*Unless she commits some thought-crime, like being a Republican or criticizing Islam or rejecting abortion.

Funny

From one of those Even More Evil Than Me blogs:
“If I tell you that there are powerful people who are oppressing you to defend their own interests, you’ll call me a progressive, a liberal, and a reformer. If I tell you who those people are, you’ll call me a Nazi.”

It has long seemed odd to me that the Under-Representation of certain groups in desirable fields is a cause for hand-wringing and legal action, but the even more massive Over-Representation of other groups in desirable fields --unless it's Generic White Males-- is Beyond The Pale to notice, much less discuss.

Over-Representation of certain groups in un-desirable fields, like prison or school detention, can only be discussed within the orthodox bounds of The Narrative, ie, that it's Our Fault, Not Theirs.
